A black lacquered Art Nouveau corner stand in wood, dating from circa 1900–1910, with dimensions 24 x 38 x 14 cm, made in France and in good used condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
It is a modernist corner support that preserves that elegant and somewhat theatrical air of the early years of the 20th century, when the small cabinet became a decorative gesture more than a simple functional part. The structure, with its deep black lacquer, seems designed to fit into a corner and transform it into a small stage. The soft curves, almost undulating, respond to that modernist taste for the organic line, for the form that flows without rigidity.
On the surface, the protagonism is taken by the hand-painted birds, light, almost suspended in a moment of movement. They are accompanied by thin branches, stylized flowers and small touches of color that break the darkness of the background without clashing. The gold, applied with delicacy, provides a contained glow, as if the piece wanted to suggest luxury without falling into showiness.
The wear on the edges — that loss of lacquer that reveals the wood — does not take away beauty; on the contrary, it adds authenticity, reminding that this piece has lived decades in homes where furniture was its own language. It is a piece of furniture that blends function and ornament, typical of early modernism: practical, yes, but above all designed to embellish the space, to introduce a refined and exotic touch in a corner that, without it, would go unnoticed.
An esquinero that speaks of another era, of a taste for craftsmanship and for nature reinterpretation, where every bird and every branch seem to be part of a small visual poem.
