Violin labelled Antonius Stradiuarius 4/4, dated to the late 19th / early 20th century, in good condition, tested and operable, includes strings and a rigid wooden case with lining.
Description from the seller
French/Belgian 4/4 violin with original case – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Fascinating antique 4/4 violin of French or Belgian school, datable to the end of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th, complete with its original rigid wooden case with pinky antique fabric-lined interior. A instrument of great decorative and musical charm, characterized by a beautiful transparent amber varnish and elegant lines typical of European luthier tradition of the era.
Inside there is a partially legible paper label that can be traced to the famous inscription “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721,” a formula historically used in numerous European workshops inspired by the Cremonese school. Also accompanied by an antique score sheet of “Ode à Sainte-Cécile” from Brussels, a suggestive detail that contributes to the authentic character of the whole.
The instrument has been tested and is described as having a warm, pleasing, well-balanced tone. The violin presents complete and in good overall condition, with normal signs of wear, small surface marks, and light wear compatible with age and use, without evident breaks. The structure appears harmonious and well preserved.
Particularly interesting is also the original rigid wooden case, complete with its antique hardware. As often happens with wooden cases of this period, time has caused a slight warping of the wood: the case closes but does not fit perfectly. Key missing.
A object of strong collectible and decorative appeal, ideal for enthusiasts of antique musical instruments, atmospheric interiors, or collections devoted to European historic luthiery.
