Vintage table from 1950–1960 in iron and wood.
Description from the seller
It is a mid-20th-century vintage table that plays with two very characteristic languages of the era: on one hand, the naturalistic, almost narrative aesthetic of the top; on the other, the gilded metal structure that imitates bamboo canes, a nod to the exotic widely present in decorative furniture of the 50s and 60s.
The top features a scene of deer in the forest, rendered in a soft contrast of tones that recalls Central European winter illustrations: an adult stag and two juveniles in a snowy clearing, surrounded by bare trees. The composition has that serene, contemplative air that many post-war decorative pieces aimed for, where nature became a refuge of aesthetic. The image is not loud or overly detailed; it is designed to accompany, to create atmosphere, almost like a print transferred onto the furniture.
The structure, in gilded iron with a finish that imitates bamboo, provides visual lightness and a sophisticated touch. That faux metal bamboo was a very popular resource in Europe and the United States during mid-century, associated with elegant, warm interiors that were slightly orientalist. The gold finish, softened by time, gives the table a warm, domestic glow, without pretensions of excessive luxury.
Taken together, it is a piece fully in line with mid-20th-century décor, when function mixed with the artistic and the exotic with the naturalistic. A table that not only serves, but tells a small story on its surface.
Tracked shipping and good packaging.
