Description from the seller

Ritual plaque (astrological calendar), Nepal, 19th–20th century.
Repoussé and engraved copper, mounted in a modern frame
Rectangular copper plaque worked in repoussé, depicting a complex cosmological and astrological scheme of Tibetan tradition, probably attributable to a ritual calendar or zodiac mandala.

The composition is organized concentrically:
Center: symbolic wheel with a rosette of the rotating cross (Buddhist svastika), emblem of good omen and cosmic order.
Mid band: circular articulation with signs and motifs recalling the structure of the cyclical time.
Outer field: presence of animal figures and zodiac symbols, linked to the system of the twelve animals and Tibetan astrological cycles.
Upper register: small medallions with inscriptions or sacred symbols.
Lower register: anthropomorphic figures and stylized ritual scenes.
The whole recalls Tibetan ritual calendars, in which coexist:
the twelve zodiac animals, associated with the years
Reino Minerales.
Cosmic cycles and esoteric symbols linked to tantric Buddhism.
Mandala schemes representing time as a sacred cycle.
The Tibetan calendar is indeed a complex Luni-solar system, based on cycles of lunar months and symbolic years, used to determine religious festivals and astrological practices.
