The Cellar, Oil on Canvas, René BESSERVE (1883-1959)
Oil on canvas authentic signed by the artist René Besserve (1883-1959). This work depicts an interior scene titled The Cellar.
The authenticity of this piece is documented by the original handwritten inscriptions on the back of the old wooden stretcher. It clearly bears the artist's signature as well as a rare workshop indication Ne Pas Venir Avant 1945, allowing a precise dating of the creation of the work.
René BESSERVE is a recognized painter, trained at the Académie Julian and the Beaux-Arts de Montpellier. His career was marked by exhibitions in Parisian salons, notably the Salon d'Automne and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, where his work on light and interior atmospheres was acclaimed.
The work is in good conservation condition. The pictorial layer is stable. The original wooden stretcher is well preserved.
Dimensions: 40 x 32 cm with a depth including the hanging hardware 4 cm.
