Very good condition
Yoko Koyama is a Japanese mangaka best known for her work in shōjo manga.
Recognizable for her elegant “clear line” drawing style and sensitive storytelling, she developed a highly personal approach that remained distinct throughout her career. Among her best-known works are Karatachi no Koji, Banzai! Lady President, and Mother, Don’t Cry, all celebrated for their emotional depth and subtle character portrayal.
Active in the shōjo field for several decades, Yoko Koyama belonged to the first generation of female artists to establish themselves in a genre that, until the mid-1960s, was largely dominated by male mangaka.
Unlike many shōjo artists of the period, she avoided the exaggerated starry-eyed heroines, instead favoring playful, lively expressions and subtle emotional nuance. Her charmingly caricatural secondary characters contrast beautifully with refined heroines capable of conveying a wide range of emotions with remarkable simplicity.
Following our Showcase Auction, we now open a 4th chapter bringing together recent finds and long-lost treasures from our latest journey through Japan, alongside a deep dive into our own treasure chest.
A curated selection of works, uncovered and now offered to collectors around the world.
