Description from the seller

Scale 1:

Antique 18th-century tin scale/plate with guild marks and later historical engraving "1857"

A beautiful and authentic 18th-century cultural artifact. This tin scale (or deep plate) is a handcrafted piece from the boom period of West European tin casting (18th century).

The base bears three early, struck guild marks (three-mark system consisting of city mark, master mark, and quality mark) in the characteristic triangular arrangement. This type of mark system is typical for high-quality tin work from the Netherlands in this period.

Unique historical contrast: What makes this lot special is that the object stayed in family ownership for generations and was later personalized. On the inside there is a hand-made, later engraving from the year 1857, including accompanying text. These kinds of inscriptions were often added in the 19th century as occasion or memorial gifts (for example at a marriage or inheritance). It forms a fascinating timeline that makes the centuries-long use history of this antique object beautifully tangible.

Condition: In fair, unrestored antique condition with a magnificent, deep, and well-worn patina that suits the great age. The surface shows the inevitable signs of aging, such as fine scratches and wear on the stamps and text, which guarantees authenticity. No structural defects or restorations. See the photos for an accurate personal impression.

Production period of object: 18th century (engraving added later in 1857)
Material: Tin (Cast and hammered)
Origin: Netherlands

Scale 2:

Large, deep tin serving dish / moss dish [1.0]. Dating: 18th century (circa 1750–1780).
Origin: Germany / Central Europe.

Marks: Equipped with two clear foundry stamps on the underside. Crowned cartouche with a tree/branch motif, the guild quality number "18" and maker’s letters (ending in -TEL).

Condition: Good antique state with a beautiful, well-worn, authentic gray patina. Light signs of aging and historical surface corrosion (tin pest) in keeping with an age of more than 200 years. No major cracks. See photos for an accurate impression.
