Authentic Capodimonte four-piece vanity set in art ceramic dating to 1930–1940, comprising an oval mirror, a wall-mounted console, and a pair of single-light wall lamps, made in Italy from ceramic with a turquoise base and white floral relief, in good overall condition with minor age-related nicks and stains (mirror glass replaced in the 1960s).
Description from the seller
Rare and elegant coordinated bathroom set in authentic Capodimonte art ceramic (4 pieces total).
The set comprises an oval vanity mirror, a wall-mounted console shelf, and a pair of single-light, mirrored sconces/candelabra designed to be displayed together.
Brand Authenticity:
The value and prestige of this ensemble are certified by the crown-and-N mark pressed raw directly into the ceramic paste before firing (visible in relief on the base of the candle holders). It is not transfer decal or cold-printed industrial, but the manual punch typical of prestigious Italian artisan manufactories that upheld the great Capodimonte tradition.
Each element is entirely handcrafted and distinguished by the splendid color combination: a turquoise/aquamarine base with a raised textured surface, on which magnificent floral compositions (roses and buds) are boldly applied in glossy white.
Era and History:
Based on the mark type and the manufactory, the original work dates from 1920s to 1940s. Later, in the 1960s (in 1960), the mirror underwent an alteration in which the glass was changed. On the back of the structure there is an extraordinary testimonial of this work: the bottom has been sealed using contemporary newspaper sheets. In some items the dating of 1960 remains clearly legible, a fascinating detail that serves as a true documentary time capsule.
Conditions:
The set presents generally good condition for the ceramic structure. There are very small, widespread chips on the petals of the flowers and on the profiles: minimal, absolutely non-invasive and non-structural details that attest to the authenticity and intrinsic fragility of hand-worked antique ceramic (refer to detailed photos). Regarding the reflective part, the current glass (from the 1960s replacement) is worn by time and will probably need to be replaced to restore the set to its original maximum splendor.
Actual Dimensions:
Vanity mirror (overall footprint including frame): 70 cm (height) x 55 cm (width)
Glass-only inner pane: approx. 53 cm (height) x 38 cm (width)
Shelf/Console: approx. 25 cm (height) x 48 cm (width) x 18 cm (depth)
Sconces (each): approx. 26 cm (height) x 14 cm (width)
