The painting moves on the thin ridge that separates human interiority from the external environment, erasing the distance between the subject and the background. At the center, the figure's melancholic gaze emerges from a vibrantly layered painterly surface. The overlay of the landscape acts as a second level of consciousness: the horizon line virtually crosses the subject's eyes, tying visual perception to the line of earth, while the textures of vegetation or clouds blend with the contours of the face and hair. There is no detachment, but a mutual interpenetration: the face becomes territory and the landscape becomes thought.

I am Barbara Bartolomei. I create paintings addressing a variety of subjects such as portraits, the human figure and animals, landscape, still life, sacred art and fantasy compositions. My painting technique unfolds through several specific stages of work as taught by the masters of the Florentine Renaissance, executing oil compositions while experimenting on different supports.

I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the Sacred Art School in Florence. I am a painting instructor for adults, a teacher in international master’s programs and summer courses for Italian and foreign students. I have collaborated in the realization of large-format sacred works and curated exhibition projects, from graphics to the photographic catalog.

I paint all that is expressible through beauty, in a dimension of encounter between dream and reality. I have sold works throughout Europe and outside the EU, painting both on commission and for auctions and private collectors. The painting is finished with a final protective varnish. I use only non-toxic materials.
