Description from the seller

Folies-Bergère Stage Scene, c.1950, gelatin silver print, plate signed Harcourt Paris lower left corner (recto).
In good condition, corner bumps and slight surface faults. Please check the scans for details.

Studio Harcourt was a celebrated Paris photography studio founded in 1933–34 by Cosette Harcourt with the Lacroix brothers and Robert Ricci. It became famous for its polished black-and-white portraits of actors, writers, musicians, dancers, and public figures, defined by dramatic lighting, soft tonal transitions, and a highly staged sense of elegance. Closely associated with the world of French cinema and Parisian entertainment, Harcourt also photographed performers linked to the Folies-Bergère and figures such as Josephine Baker. With its instantly recognizable style, a portrait by Harcourt became a mark of prestige in 20th-century France, and the studio remains one of the most iconic names in the history of French portrait photography.
