Masini Daniele - Nel sottobosco

The title, Sottobosco, shifts the reading key from a simple still life to a reflection on the life cycle of nature. The undergrowth is the place of the hidden, of the decomposed that becomes humus, of life that swarms in the shadow and regenerates through the end of another body.

The work oscillates masterfully between the crudity of European Baroque (the masters of Spanish still life or the dramatic intensity of Rembrandt spring to mind) and a contemporary, existential expressiveness. Masini does not glorify death, nor does he gild it: he portrays its sacredness and its mysterious, magnetic beauty.
