Set of 15 Chinese carved wooden panels dating to the 20th century, provenance China, in good original condition, with two large panels about 42 x 23 x 3 cm and the others of mixed dimensions.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare set of 15 Chinese decorative panels in carved wood. These elements were originally used as decorative inserts for daybeds (Opium bed), screens, or traditional Chinese furniture.
The panels show an extraordinary variety of artistic techniques and traditional Chinese motifs, including:
- Gilded reliefs (Giltwood): Animated scenes with court figures, warriors, and complex architectural pavilions, rich in dynamism.
- Floral and faunal motifs: Detailed carvings depicting peonies (symbol of wealth), lotus flowers, birds, and bats (symbol of good fortune).
- Traditional finishes: Original red and black lacquer, enriched by beautiful gold leaf gilding, creating a fascinating color contrast.
An ideal set for Oriental art collectors, perfect to display as wall decor or for unique interior design projects.
Dimensions
The lot includes panels of different sizes (dimensions expressed in cm):
Large panels (the two largest with scenes of figures): about 42 × 23 × 3 cm each.
Other panels: Mixed and varied sizes; please refer to the pictures with a ruler for the precise details of each individual piece (as shown in image_3.png, image_5.png and details).
Conditions
General condition good, commensurate with age (well-used, with signs of time).
The panels feature a beautiful original patina. As these are antique wooden objects, there are natural signs of wear, small cracks in the wood due to age, minor losses in gilding or lacquer, and traces of dust/old restorations, which attest to their authenticity and historical charm.
Please carefully examine the complete photo gallery (including close-ups) to assess the condition before making an offer.
