Torquato Tasso's Jérusalem Délivrée, Illustrated Edition, two volumes in French (1803) published by Bossange, Masson et Besson in Paris, bound in leather with a frontispiece portrait of Tasso and 20 engravings, totaling 707 pages at 20.5 x 13 cm, in fine condition with very clean interior.

La Jérusalem délivrée (Italian- La Gerusalemme liberata) is an epic poem published in 1581 by Le Tasse (Torquato Tasso, 1544-1595). It is a largely fictional account of the First Crusade in which Christian knights led by Godefroy de Bouillon fight against the Saracens to raise the siege of Jerusalem in 1099. Elements of the poem are inspired by the epics of Homer and Virgil as well as by Orlando Furioso of Ariosto. It is dedicated to Tasso's patron Alfonso II d'Este.
New edition illustrated of 1803 with a portrait of Tasso as frontispiece and 20. engravings, one at the beginning of each chapter. 2 volumes in-8 (19.5 x 12 cm), 353 and 354 pages (complete)
Basane leather binding of the period. Smooth back decorated with golden motifs, red and green title labels on spine, gilt framing on boards, speckled edges to book block. Rubbing to corners and edges of binding. Very good condition. Internally very clean with occasional yellowing of paper.
