Description from the seller
Daftmill 2011 Summer Batch Release (Bottled 2023) – 46%
The Daftmill 2011 Summer Batch Release is a lowland farm distillery whisky that represents everything Daftmill is known for: small-scale production, careful seasonal distillation, and a clean, fruit-forward style. After 12 years of maturation and bottled at a gentle 46%, this release focuses on elegance, balance, and natural sweetness rather than cask influence or power.
Nose
Fresh, bright, and highly refined. The nose opens with green apple, pear, and white peach, followed by fresh-cut grass and floral notes.
There is a delicate sweetness of vanilla custard, shortbread, and honey, giving it a soft dessert-like edge. Underneath, subtle cereal notes and a touch of lemon zest and orange blossom add lift and clarity. Oak influence is very restrained, allowing the spirit character to remain front and center.
Palate
Clean, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The arrival is gentle, with orchard fruits, pear juice, and apple tart leading the way.
Mid-palate develops into vanilla cream, honeyed malt, and buttery biscuit, with a light citrus brightness running through it. There is a soft herbal freshness—cut grass and chamomile—that enhances its natural, farm-style character.
The texture is silky rather than oily, with everything feeling precise and well-defined.
Finish
Medium in length and very clean. It fades through light citrus, soft malt sweetness, and gentle vanilla, leaving a fresh, slightly floral aftertaste with a hint of biscuit.
Conclusion
This Daftmill 2011 Summer Batch is a highly elegant and pure farm distillery whisky, defined more by spirit quality than cask impact. It is subtle, refined, and exceptionally well-balanced, showcasing the strength of Daftmill’s low-intervention approach.
Ideal for those who enjoy:
Light, elegant, fruit-driven single malts
Lowland-style freshness with gentle complexity
Whiskies that prioritise spirit character over heavy cask influence
