Bruno Calzavara
Bruno Calzavara was born in 1942. Painter and sculptor, he trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, developing a language attentive to the rendering of light, of the landscape and of painting matter.
Since the seventies he has been invited to important national and international exhibitions, receiving attention from critics and the specialized press. His production includes painterly and sculptural works, in which formal research is often accompanied by a particular sensitivity to natural data and to atmospheric effects.
DESCRIPTION
Landscape
Oil on panel
Signed bottom right, signed and dated 2002 on the back
Dimensions of the work: 58 x 56 cm
Dimensions with frame: 74 x 76 cm
In this Landscape, Bruno Calzavara concentrates the composition on a natural passage built through light, color and the movement of the brushstroke. The scene is dominated by the presence of trees and foreground vegetation, rendered with a painting rich in lots of small touches and chromatic variations.
The painting stands out for the luministic contrast between the darker, denser area of the foreground and the greater openness of the second plane, where the light filters through the branches and progressively lightens the composition. The blue sky, traversed by light veils, contributes to give depth and breath to the image.
The painterly rendering recalls a post-impressionist sensibility, especially in the way the surface is built through short, overlapping and vibrant brushstrokes. The green, blue, pink and yellow tones describe not only the landscape, but also convey its luminous and atmospheric perception.
A pleasant and well-resolved work, it represents an example of Calzavara’s landscape painting, attentive to the natural data but interpreted with a free, sensitive and chromatically lively brushstroke.
