Description from the seller
ORLANDO DONADI
Orlando Donadi was born in Treviso in 1943. Interested from the outset in the expressive possibilities of painting, graphics and sculpture, he held his first solo exhibition in 1965. Since then he has developed a long artistic activity, accompanied by travels in Europe, Africa and America, which contribute to the maturation of his personal language.
During his career he has exhibited in numerous Italian and international venues, earning prizes, recognitions and important commissions. Among the most significant occasions are remembered: participation in the VI International Art Biennial of Barcelona in 1979, the solo show at the Alberto Martini Pinacoteca in Oderzo in 1983, exhibitions in Trier, Abano Terme, Vienna, Venice and in other European cities. In 2007 he held a solo show at the National Museum of Villa Pisani in Stra, while in 2014 he exhibited at Palazzo Correr, in Venice.
Donadi's painting arises from a very personal synthesis of diverse references: Venetian tradition, the Renaissance, theater, the mask, historical memory and more modern suggestions, sometimes close to collage and the decomposition of space. His figures, often still and silent, live in suspended environments, where historical data and fantastical elements meet in a theatrical and visionary dimension.

Artwork dimensions: 40 x 40 cm
With Imbonitori one enters one of Orlando Donadi’s most recognizable universes: a theatrical Venice, populated by figures in costume and references to the figurative tradition of the past. The city’s architectures remain in the background, while in the foreground three characters occupy the scene with the composed stillness of actors before a stage curtain.
The reference to 18th-century Venetian culture, the mask and the commedia dell’arte is evident in the choice of garments, headwear, and the central figure, which evokes the image of Arlecchino through the diamond-pattern costume. The expressions of the characters, suspended and slightly enigmatic, emphasize the narrative character of the work, leaving the scene open to various interpretations.
The title, Imbonitori, suggests an interpretation linked to wordplay, seduction and representation. The figures indeed seem to address the viewer, as sellers, actors or mediators of a small staged fiction. The pale blue backdrop, the green side wing and the Venetian perspective on the left margin reinforce this theatrical and constructed dimension.
The painting is rich and controlled, with vivid colors and a worked material, capable of uniting figurative precision and decorative taste. The work well represents Donadi’s language, in which Venice is not just a physical place, but becomes a theatrical space populated by figures out of time.
