AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

“In my work, I explore the layered complexities of city life through reflections and silhouettes, capturing moments that seem at once both intimate and anonymous. I am drawn to the spaces where interior and exterior overlap—faces caught in a café window, figures reflected in glass buildings, glimpses of individuals moving through shadows. These layered perspectives hint at the ways urban environments shape us, sometimes isolating us while at other times creating unexpected, beautiful connections.”

Andrew McNeile Jones studied fine art at Ruskin School of Art, at Oxford University, in the 1980s. He then trained in film making, working in London in a number of roles, but ultimately for some years as a producer and director.

He then returned to painting full-time in the early 2000s, and moved back to Oxford with his young family.

His film making experience gave him a deep interest in lighting and its power to help tell a story, particularly when combined with set design and the creation of ‘tableaux’ which contain a narrative element. He now incorporates these ideas into his painting.

He has been represented by several London galleries, as well as a galleries in Paris and Glasgow.

He has exhibited at many art fairs, in group shows, and in a handful of solo shows.

He has won several prizes, including first prize in the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries in 2022.

He spent a large part of 2024 building a new studio close to his home, and is now enjoying the new space and the ability to work at a larger scale.
