Description from the seller
Splendid and sought-after Hoepli manual, in its very rare first edition published by Hoepli and written by Alberto Zucca, dedicated to circus activity and acrobatic gymnastics, enriched by splendid plates and black-and-white engravings.
A monumental work that covers wrestlers, acrobats, contortionists, gladiators—in short, the synthesis of the entire world of the circus from more than a century ago. It is a gripping and wonderful lost world that marked the era of cultural and social rebirth of the new century.
The conditions reveal evident signs of time, including a faded cover and the detachment of practically all the plates.
Unfortunately, plate no. 98 is missing, but the work remains magnificent and fully usable, though, given its absolute rarity, professional restoration is advisable.
A further value consists of two unbeatable postal cards by the Gottani Brothers, "Anellisti di forza," from the famous Spanish circus family who presented their shows across Europe; furthermore, two newspaper clippings from the era depicting the athlete Marino.
A piece of great commercial and collecting value; it is one of the rarest and most sought-after Hoepli manuals.
The photos are an integral part of the description.
