For sale is an exceptionally large, magnificent decorative plate (wall plaque) in traditional Kashmiri papier-mâché craftsmanship. With its impressive diameter of over 45 cm, this authentic vintage piece is an absolute eye-catcher and a masterpiece of Oriental folk art.
Details & Design (
Motive: Classic Naqashi fine painting. The design is built in concentric circles and radiating segmented sections.
Subject: Numerous colorful birds (including in the style of the Kashmiri bulbul) embedded in a dense sea of autumnal Chinar leaves (Kashmiri plane tree).
Ornamentation: The entire background is traversed by an extremely fine, shimmering gold painting. A simple, deep black border provides an elegant contrast and frames the opulent artwork perfectly.
Material & Construction
Basis: Made according to traditional methods from genuine, densely pressed paper pulp (Sakhtsazi). No modern plastic or MDF imitation.
Refinement: The fine lines were applied by hand with hair brushes and then sealed with several coats of clear varnish, giving the plate a smooth, glossy surface.
