Two Bohemian crystal pieces from circa 1900–1910, a large hand‑engraved clear crystal vase with a continuous panoramic wildlife scene and ornate Rococo revival silver overlay, and an engraved clear crystal water pitcher, each about 25 cm tall and all in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
1.Magnificent Large Hand-Engraved Crystal Vase with Panoramic Wildlife Scenes and
2. Engraved Crystal Glass Water Pitcher / Jug
1.A truly exceptional large clear crystal vase, masterfully wheel-engraved around its entire circumference with a continuous panoramic wildlife scene of museum-quality artistry.
The decoration wraps seamlessly around the body, presenting a rich forest landscape populated with magnificently rendered wildlife: a powerful lion with deeply carved, strand-by-strand mane; a majestic stag with sweeping antlers standing amid pine undergrowth; a bear emerging dramatically from dense woodland; and additional deer moving gracefully through a birch forest. Birds are etched into the upper treeline, creating a complete ecosystem in glass. The engraving demonstrates virtuoso technique — foreground, midground, and background achieved through varying depths of wheel-cut frosting, giving the scene extraordinary three-dimensional depth.
The vase rises in a classic trumpet form from a substantial cut-crystal base with hobnail and fan-cut detailing. The rim is adorned with ornate silver overlay in a scrolling Rococo-revival design featuring shells, foliage, and foliate cartouches. Felt pads protect the base. The glass is thick, brilliant, and heavy.
Most likely Bohemian or Austrian, the golden era of Central European scenic crystal engraving.
Approximate height: 25 cms
Condition: Excellent
2. Engraved Crystal Glass Water Pitcher / Jug
A beautiful and elegant clear crystal glass water pitcher of generous proportions, featuring exquisite all-over wheel-engraved decoration in the Rococo revival taste. The bulbous body is densely ornamented with scrolling acanthus foliage, spiral shell motifs, and fine crosshatch ground work, all executed with confident, finely detailed engraving characteristic of skilled European glasswork from this period. A frieze of swirling scrolls and naturalistic flourishes encircles the upper body, while the lower section carries further engraved panels. The pitcher stands on a broad, flat radially-cut foot for stability and rises to an elegant flared spout with a gracefully looped applied handle. Interior cut detailing is visible from above, adding depth and brilliance to the clear lead crystal. The base retains its original protective felt pads. The glass is heavy and substantial with excellent clarity throughout. A handsome and functional piece equally suited to display or use.
Estimated height 25 cms
