AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

2Quadri 44*70 cm
In these two new works from the series “Fragments,” the female face is decomposed, cut, traversed by nerve-like lines and instinctive marks, as if the image never wanted to fully concede itself. A few essential elements remain: defined eyelashes, red lips, hinted profiles, hints of a smirk suspended between irony, seduction, and challenge.

The two figures seem to be speaking without saying anything. One closes her eyes with an almost theatrical expression, the other bares her teeth in a more direct gesture, almost a taunt. It is not just provocation: it is a form of emotional intelligence, a way to tell the woman not as a passive image to observe, but as a presence capable of observing, judging, and even playing with the world.

The intense red of the lips becomes the forte of the diptych: it draws the gaze, holds it, and then puts it a little at ease, like when someone understands you more than you would like. The black lines crossing the faces recall thoughts, scratches, inner tensions, fragments, of identity, desire, irony, and defense.

This diptych tells of a living, imperfect, ironic, and sharp femininity. A femininity that does not ask for permission, does not seek approval, and is not easily framed, poor us who still try. Two faces that smile, challenge, and disturb with elegance, leaving the viewer with a simple yet uncomfortable question: who is really looking at whom?
***
The series “Fragments” explores the emotional strength of the human face through intense, fragmented, and deeply contemporary compositions. The eyes, lips, and facial details emerge among fast lines, overlaps, and instinctive brushstrokes, creating images suspended between elegance and unease.
Each work captures a different emotion without openly telling it: the viewer is drawn by the gaze, yet left free to interpret its meaning. The faces are never fully defined, almost dissolving among hair, marks, and movement, turning the portrait into a perception that is more emotional than realistic.
The delicate tones of the backgrounds contrast with the decisive black of the graphic lines and with the strong presence of the lips and eyes, elements that become the visual center of the work. A series with a strong aesthetic impact, capable of uniting sensuality, mystery, and modernity in an instantly recognizable style.
Here there is no perfectly cataloged, glossy portrait. There is the elegant chaos of human identity, hidden behind a gaze that seems to appear and disappear in the same instant.

***Disclaimer***
Each work arises from the encounter between artistic expression and artisanal craftsmanship.
The painting represents the main creative element, while the support (canvas and materials) is an integral part of a careful and conscious production process.
The canvases used are selected with particular attention to quality and, where possible, environmental sustainability, favoring recycled or low-impact materials. In some cases, the supports may be produced or finished by hand, even through the reuse of materials.
Any slight imperfections of the support should not be considered defects, but testimonies of the manual process and the artisanal nature of the product. Such features do not in any way compromise the artistic value and the integrity of the work, but rather strengthen its uniqueness.
Each painting should therefore be understood as a unique piece, the result of a process that combines creativity, manual skill, and responsible attention to materials.

Seller's Story

“Art is born where imperfection stops being a defect and becomes language.” Vincenzo Raimondo is an Italian contemporary artist born and active in Palermo. Self-taught, he develops a personal pictorial research that traverses material abstraction, minimalism and contemporary figuration, without adhering to rigid stylistic schemes. His painting takes shape from the observation of daily life: common objects, memories, cultural symbols and emotional fragments are transformed into essential images, capable of creating a direct dialogue with the observer. The mark, the matter and the void become an integral part of the visual narration. Over the years he has participated in artistic events, group exhibitions and improvised happenings in the Palermo area, maturing a recognizable language that combines visual immediacy and emotional research. His presence in local artistic initiatives and cultural manifestations has contributed to building an independent and coherent path. Among the most relevant experiences are participation in group shows and artistic events in Palermo and exhibition activities related to the contemporary Sicilian creative landscape. In 2015 and 2016 he was a finalist in the national competition Sunday Painters promoted by La Stampa as part of Artissima, distinguishing himself among thousands of participating artists. In 2016 he received the Critics’ Award, a recognition that marked a significant step in defining his artistic identity. Raimondo’s production develops through several thematic series. Among these, the Fly series is one of the most recognizable: minimalist and poetic compositions in which small suspended elements evoke lightness, memory and the desire to escape. Alongside this pursuit coexist textural works, contemporary reinterpretations of Sicilian culture and pieces inspired by pop and cinematic imagery. Each work is born from an instinctive and experimental process, where imperfection is welcomed as an authentic part of the creative journey. Raw surfaces, stratifications, deliberately irregular marks and materiality are not hidden but enhanced as living traces of the work itself. For Raimondo, art is not mere decoration, but emotional presence: a direct and sincere way of transforming experiences, memory and observation into contemporary images.
