Description from the seller
2 Paintings 50x70 cm
With The Moors, the artist returns to the most iconic roots of Sicily, reinterpretating the Moors in a contemporary, colorful and strongly personal key. The two figures, regal and silent, seem to guard not only a face but a memory: that of an ancient, luminous, contradictory land full of charm.
The bright colors, decorations, crowns and ornamental details transform the subjects into almost symbolic presences, suspended between popular tradition and modern language. Around the faces appear elements deeply linked to the Sicilian imaginary: lemons, oranges, leaves and prickly pear fronds, recalls to the Conca d’Oro, to the Mediterranean scents and to the raw but generous strength of the island.
The dark, textured and instinctive background makes the figures emerge with greater impact, as if Sicily itself stepped out of memory to become a living image. It is not only a decorative homage to the Moors, but a visual story made of belonging, history, irony and identity.
A diptych designed for those who love Sicily, but also for those who seek in a work the warmth of a land, the flavor of origins and that imperfect beauty which, as it happens, is often the only truly interesting one.
****
The series “I Mori” reinterprets one of the most fascinating symbols of Sicilian culture through a contemporary, essential and strongly expressive style. The figures, inspired by the tradition of the famous Moor Head sculptures, are transformed into modern icons where color, elegance and Mediterranean identity coexist in balance.
The stylized faces, lacking realistic details, become a distinctive element of the work: they do not represent a specific person, but a universal symbol, suspended between mystery, history and imagination. This choice gives the paintings a strong visual personality and a more emotional and modern reading of the Sicilian tradition.
The intense hues of the turbans and crowns contrast with the textured and neutral backgrounds, creating refined and decorative compositions capable of uniting contemporary art and cultural references without losing authenticity. Works that carry the soul of Sicily, but reinterpreted with a current and personal gaze.
***Disclaimer***
Each artwork arises from the meeting of artistic expression and artisanal craft.
The painting represents the main creative element, while the support (canvas and materials) is an integral part of a careful and conscious production process.
The canvases used are selected with particular attention to quality and, where possible, environmental sustainability, privileging recycled or low-impact materials. In some cases, the supports may be crafted or finished artisanally, even through the reuse of materials.
Any slight imperfections of the support should not be considered defects, but evidence of the manual process and the artisanal nature of the product. Such features do not compromise in any way the artistic value and integrity of the work, but rather reinforce its uniqueness.
