Antique French aneroid wall barometer with gilded ornaments and a marble ball – ca. 1890–1910

The barometer is housed in a richly decorated oval wall cabinet with gilded floral ornaments
and provided with a decorative green marble ball at the top.
The dial bears the French weather indications Tempête, Pluie, Variable, Beau Temps and Très Sec,
as well as the inscription “Selon Torricelli”, a reference to the inventor of the barometer,
Evangelista Torricelli.

This object combines a functional measuring instrument with a decorative character
datypical for the French living culture around the turn of the century.
