Elephants and Kangaroos
Oil paint on panel
166 × 150 cm (overall)
Per panel: 166 × 50 cm
Elephants and Kangaroos is a particularly special and rare work within Ellen Voets’ oeuvre. The triptych consists of three panels, each painted on both sides. On one side, powerful, expressive elephants are visible; on the other side, lively kangaroos. Both sides are signed by the artist, making the work a fully autonomous and unique art object.
The elephants radiate calm, strength, and connectedness, while the kangaroos embody movement, energy, and alertness. By placing these two species literally opposite each other, an intriguing tension arises between stillness and dynamism. The work invites interaction: the viewer is encouraged to approach the artwork, turn it, and experience it anew.
The use of oil on panel enhances the depth and texture of the painting. The visible brushwork gives both sides a tactile, almost sculptural quality. With a total format of 166 × 150 cm, the work has a monumental presence, while the vertical panels provide rhythm and balance within the composition.
Elephants and Kangaroos is not only a painting but a spatial work of art that carries multiple perspectives and narratives.
