This unique print features the profile of a solitary geisha — silhouette of timeless grace, ebony hair artfully gathered in a traditional bun threaded with light wood kanzashi and adorned with a bira-bira with delicate tassels — whose outlines become the poetic window opening onto an inner landscape.

The magic lies in the masterful superposition between figure and nature. Inside the silhouette blossoms a scene of a forest of black pines with chiselled silhouettes, evoking the misty mountain landscapes dear to Japanese printmakers like Hiroshige.
