With this square-format work, Medsan signs a portrait of rare psychological intensity, a visual meditation on the hidden duality that inhabits every being. This unique print features a close-up of a geisha's face with penetrating, mournful eyes — ivory-powdered face of fragile beauty, lips finely drawn in wine-red, ebony hair with blue-tinged highlights pulled into an elaborate bun pierced by white bone kanzashi — captured at the precise moment when she conceals the right half of her face behind an open sensu (fan).

The magic of the composition lies in this unsettling revelation. The traditional fan, rather than protecting the courtesan's modesty, unveils her true hidden face: behind the sensu, it is not the symmetric grace of her left profile that appears, but the tiger's blazing eye — amber pupil fixating the viewer with a feline intensity, fur striped with black and ardent orange, all set in the fine graphic finesse of Edo prints. The geisha's face and the feline’s face merge into a single ethereal entity, a powerful metaphor for the dual nature that dwells in every woman — outward softness and inner strength, civility and instinct, social mask and wild truth. The geisha's human gaze, half-closed and resigned, violently contrasts with the tiger's wide, lively, intensely living gaze: the hidden beast sees what the human consents not to look at anymore. Her wine-red lacquered nails holding the sensu evoke claws ready to deploy.

The impact of the composition is magistrally enhanced by a painting treatment that is particularly refined, blending the extreme delicacy of Yoshitoshi's major-prints with contemporary chromatic sensitivity. The ivory-gold speckled background with metallic touches evokes the gold leaf of old screens, while the indigo-blue kimono with white fragment motifs offers a perfect chromatic counterpoint to the tiger's flamboyant orange. The meticulous hatching of the hair, the kimono folds, and the fur bear witness to a graphic virtuosity worthy of the greatest ukiyo-e masters. The traditional vertical cartouche at the top right, housing the artist's signature in katakana (メドサン), accompanied by the red calligraphic hanko, perfects this psychological tension.
