Description from the seller

Yoshio Horiba (1920-2006) was a Western-style painter born in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. After graduating from the Ishikawa Normal School's advanced course (art), he was drafted into the military and worked as a public school teacher after the war. He studied under Saburo Miyamoto and Sosuke Yamaguchi, and received numerous awards, including the 5th Niki Exhibition Award, the Niki Exhibition Member Award, the Niki Association 40th Anniversary Award, the Niki Association Member Award, and the Narui Award. In 1977, he was recommended as a member of the Niki Association. He consistently depicted the landscapes and scenery of Noto, centered around Wajima, building a world of art that conveys a deep appreciation for his hometown.
The Niki-kai is a leading Japanese art organization for painting and sculpture, founded in 1947. Formed by artists who left the former Nikakai, it aims to "mark a second era of new post-war art." It holds the annual Nikikai Exhibition, a nationwide open-call exhibition, every autumn, showcasing both figurative and non-figurative works.
