Explanation of the work:

Steel is one of the hardest and most resistant materials we have. As a master of steel, I am used to feeling its hardness and strength, and to seeing that force represented in the essence of metal sculptures. But with this new collection I want to do the opposite: something even more complex, which is to endow it with sensitivity and to trick the viewer by showing a sculpture made of hard, resistant steel that looks like silk, that looks like a delicate and elegant piece, simple and fragile yet visually powerful.

They are stainless steel pieces finished with reliefs and with meticulous attention paid to every detail. With them I seek a more relaxed elegance and the desire to produce a deception in the viewer’s mind, like an illusion.

They are forged pieces, crafted with scrupulous care, in an idyllic setting, in full connection with steel and art. They are born with the sound of every fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there the notes of their movements—which seem wrinkled and open—flow.

I am seduced by artisanal and groundbreaking designs; thus, with these vertical, wall-mounted sculptures, I focus on becoming part of a new reality, where I seek color, texture, and sinuous forms. Who would say that this is steel? These sculptures, with a magically wrinkled appearance, make me venerate this so primitive material, for it makes everything possible, with no limits to creation or to creativity. Even steel can look light as silk.

The piece plays a mirrored effect that makes light bounce and creates spectacular plays of light and shadow. Creating a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

José Soler is a sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy, and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring out the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites the transformation of cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
