Description from the seller

This antique bread slicer was made by the renowned German company Alexanderwerk, founded in 1885 by Alexander von der Nahmer in Frankfurt. Initially, this company produced manually operated meat grinders, but from 1899 onwards many more devices and everyday items with a cast-iron base, including this bread slicer.

Today the Alexanderwerk group is a leading manufacturer of highly technological compaction and granulation machines for the chemical, food, bioscience, nuclear, and pharmaceutical industries worldwide.

This bread slicer (from the early last century) is in nearly original condition. Its patina from extensive use is very beautiful. The metal has a lot of buildup and pitting, but these are honest and decorative signs of use. See also the handle; how many hands have held it already? Very nice are the oak bread boards. Although the blade is somewhat corroded, it is still razor-sharp and usable not only for slicing bread (see photos) but also cheese and even soap!

The bread slicer is made of sturdy cast iron and weighs about 5.5 kg. The depth is 36 cm, the height (with the blade down) is 33 cm, and the width (including the lifting arm) is 46 cm.

This bread slicer will be well packaged and insured for shipment.

Seller's Story

I sell antiques and vintage items. The pieces I find or buy are always things I personally like and that are of high quality. My expertise lies mainly in items from the 20th century.
