Description from the seller
These pieces are superb examples of French art pottery from the first half of the 20th century. It is a pair of large multi-branch candelabra, characteristic of the Gréber workshop style.
A dynasty of potters: Charles Gréber is a key figure in the pottery of the Oise region (Beauvais). He took over the family business at the end of the 19th century and propelled the workshop toward modernity.
Style: Although he produced superb Art Nouveau pieces (very organic and floral), this pair of chandeliers belongs more to the Art Deco period (1920s-1930s). The forms become more geometric, raw, and sculptural.
The signature: On the last image and on only one of the chandeliers, you can clearly see the incised cursive signature 'C. Gréber', typical of artworks that came directly from his Beauvais workshops.
This design, almost tubular, evokes both traditional rustic art and the modernism of the 1930s.
The enamel work (flame-fired stoneware): This is Gréber's great specialty. He mastered high-temperature firing (stoneware).
In good overall condition; see the photos, they are an integral part of the description.
