Specific gravity of bodies, Mathurin-Jacques Brisson. Royal Printing House, 1787, 2 engraved plates + tables

Specific gravity of bodies. A useful work for Natural History, Physics, the Arts & Commerce, by Mathurin-Jacques Brisson. Royal Printing House, 1787, 451 pages with 2 engraved plates by Sellier after Fossier (depicting crystals) as well as numerous tables

FIRST EDITION of this work by the successor of Abbé Nollet to the chair of experimental physics at the Collège de Navarre. Brisson (1723-1806) was also one of Lavoisier's collaborators who supplied him with some of the substances described in this work, as well as the results of some of his weighing experiments. This work remained, until the end of the 19th century, the standard reference for physicists and mineralogists

---Traces of wear, cuts with slight losses on the cover. Interior with browning, light stains and numerous creases. Some pages poorly cut, protruding from the book. Pages 257-258 cut in half vertically. Very good condition for an antique work.
