Gerardus Johannes Ernens was born on 4 March 1935 in Utrecht. The painter showed his talent from a young age and developed into a painter with a completely distinctive style. A style highly favored by the public. Early on he came into contact with the very well-known painter John Bévort, who helped him develop his talent. After John Bévort he worked for a time with the interior- and church-painter Jan Jumelet, also certainly a notable figure.
Gerardus gained fame mainly for his colorful, somewhat suggestive and relief-like landscapes and flower compositions. In particular his flower compositions are highly sought after. Several exhibitions have been held of his work, and Gerardus is a member of the International Organization of Free Art. From the very outset, Gerardus has been a palette-knifed painter. A technique he masters in detail and that sets him apart from other artists. His paintings have a light impressionistic touch and are nevertheless clearly recognizable.
