Description from the seller
Bible – The entire Holy Scripture A. and N. T. – Luther translation with preface by J. G. Rosenmüller, probably 1806
The present edition offers the complete Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testament in Martin Luther's classic German translation, augmented by an extensive appendix that lifts the work far beyond a simple Bible edition. The preface is by Johann Georg Rosenmüller (1736–1815), one of the most important Lutheran theologians and Orientalists of his time, which gives the edition particular scholarly and historical weight. Also included is a practical guide to edifying Bible reading, which directs its use in both the domestic and school environment. A specially compiled list of chapters and Bible passages for school instruction, as well as an explanatory index of difficult words and expressions, make this edition a complete textbook for instruction and devotion. The edition was probably produced around 1806 in the context of the Enlightenment Lutheran educational reform and combines Protestant piety with the pedagogical spirit of the late Enlightenment.
18x11 cm. rubbed full-leather binding of the period. Inner pages browned. Solid block.
1152 + 316 pp.
