Description from the seller
Max-Daniel — The Good Samaritan
Digital creation, hand-retouched on canvas print
Original and unique piece
Format: 40 × 40 cm
May 2026
Signed bottom left
Counter-signed, titled and dated on the back
This work by Max-Daniel revisits the theme of the Good Samaritan, one of the great humane subjects of the biblical and pictorial tradition. The scene depicts the suspended moment when a wounded man, abandoned at the roadside, is helped by a traveler. The donkey, placed nearby, reinforces the narrative dimension and gives the composition a presence that is at once humble, rural and timeless.
The image is set in a classic aesthetic, close to grand history painting: warm chiaroscuro, ample drapery, worked flesh tones, deep landscape and a dramatic atmosphere. The subject, beyond its religious dimension, evokes compassion, aiding others, human fragility and the possibility of a kind gesture at the heart of a violent world.
The work was created using a hybrid process: original digital creation, print on canvas, then manual retouching and finishing by the artist. This process combines contemporary possibilities of digital imagery with direct painting intervention, making each piece a unique exemplar, not a simple reproduction.
The canvas is stretched on a frame. The edges are painted black, allowing direct hanging without a frame. It can also be placed in a frame or in a US-style cradle depending on the collector’s taste and the interior it is intended for.
Max-Daniel develops a series of works where great classical, biblical or mythological subjects are reinterpreted through contemporary image-creation tools, then individualized by manual work. This approach creates a dialogue between traditional painting, old visual culture and current technologies.
