Biography
Erró (born 1932), born Guðmundur Guðmundsson in Ólafsvík, Iceland, is one of the most important representatives of European Pop Art and Narrative Figuration. Since the 1960s, the artist has developed a distinctive visual language in which motifs from comics, advertising, press photography, art history, and popular culture are combined into multilayered collages and monumental paintings.
With his color-rich, often socially critical works, Erró explores themes such as consumption, power, media, and political ideologies. His works have been exhibited worldwide in prestigious museums and art institutions and are held in important international collections. Today Erró is regarded as one of the most influential Icelandic artists of the present and as a key figure in the international Pop Art movement.
