Description from the seller

19th Century Etched Glass Compote / Tazza – Louis Philippe Period – Floral Decoration

A refined 19th-century pedestal fruit bowl, also known as a compote or tazza, executed in clear blown glass and delicately decorated with an etched floral garland.

Dating from the Louis Philippe to early Napoleon III period (circa 1850–1880), this elegant piece reflects the understated sophistication of bourgeois table settings of the time. The decoration consists of a finely rendered frosted motif of stylised flowers and foliage, achieved through acid etching (often referred to as “sablé” or satin glass technique).

The bowl is raised on a hollow pedestal foot, a characteristic feature of hand-blown glass production of the period. The proportions are particularly pleasing, with a wide, shallow dish resting on a solid yet visually light base.

Such pieces were typically used for serving fruit, desserts, or confectionery, but today they make excellent decorative center pieces in both classical and contemporary interiors.

Dimensions:
Height: approx. 13 cm
Diameter (top): approx. 25 cm
Base diameter: approx. 12 cm

Condition:
In good antique condition with light signs of use consistent with age. Minor surface wear and small inclusions typical of hand-blown 19th-century glass. No major damage observed.
