Description from the seller
This work assertively follows in the wake of neo-expressionism with a street-art matrix, clearly and programmatically recalling the visual language, the chromatic palette, and the symbolism of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The canvas presents itself as a deconstructed, psychological portrait, a visual exploration of divided identity and human vulnerability.
Symbolism and Iconography
The work is dense with visual codes typical of underground culture and urban graffiti:
The Yellow Crown: Iconic element positioned at the top of the composition. It is not a symbol of royalty understood as political power, but rather a claim to inner majesty, the dignity of the marginalized, or, conversely, an ironic critique of social hierarchies.
The Face and the Deconstructed Body: The head fuses anatomical elements with a tribal mask and a skull. The asymmetrical eyes and the mouth clenched with horizontal red strokes (reminiscent of sutures or censorship) convey the impossibility of communication, a stifled cry. The stitches and white lines crossing the torso emphasize the idea of a “stitched” body, fragmented, an emotional Frankenstein.
The Sacred Heart: Placed at the lower part, a large red heart, pulsating yet also “stitched” and outlined by thick black lines, becomes the emotional center of the work. It represents exposed vulnerability, the pain kept inside a stylized anatomical armor (evoked by lines reminiscent of a rib cage on the left).
The work presents itself as a powerful manifesto of urban existentialism. Through a primitivist and gritty aesthetic, the artist manages to lay bare the fragility of the contemporary man, torn between the imposition of a “crown” (success, ego, social expectations) and the reality of a wounded heart that desperately tries to stay united. A visual reflection as violently intense as it is poetically vulnerable.
