Sonia Anton - Calypso

Calypso was inspired by the sea and the feminine form. Using layers of blue tones and textured brushstrokes, I wanted the figure to feel as though she is made of water itself, fluid, powerful, and constantly changing. Named after the mythical sea nymph, this painting explores the connection between strength and softness, inviting the viewer to find their own story within its depths.

Sonia Anton is a Romanian-Australian artist whose passion for painting was shaped from an early age, growing up alongside her mother, a celebrated artist whose work left a lasting impression. Having lived across the world from Australia to Mexico and in different continents, Sonia brings a richness of experience and perspective to every canvas. Surrounded by creativity and self-expression from childhood, she naturally found her own voice through paint and colour. Her work is driven by a deep love of colour, and a more recent fascination with texture, which she explores with growing boldness and confidence.
