"Blue Defiance" is a look of defiance in the form of art. The female face is crossed by overlapping geometric blocks in red, blue, and orange over the skin. The green-blue eyes fix the viewer with intensity, while the blue lips become the symbol of a silent rebellion. The contrast between realism and pop graphics, between cold and warm colors, creates a strong, contemporary, and magnetic work. A portrait of female strength that does not hide.

Marcela Medvedikova’s paintings, a self-taught Slovak artist, tell of restrained emotions. Her female portraits resemble panels from an inner comic strip. Drawn with stylized lines and pop colors, they lack only the speech bubble. It is the lips, red, blue, or acid green, that speak. Like two seals, they hold back what the interior wants to say.
Each face is a scene of a “battle”: on one side control and rationality, on the other irrationality and the inner turmoil struggling to survive.
In her presentation, Marcela Medvedikova writes: "I never studied painting: I am self-taught. Since childhood I drew flowers and objects, then moved on to pencil portraits, until I discovered oil painting. Painting is a passion I discovered and cultivated slowly. By contrast, fashion fascinated me and guided my studies. Creating new styles of women’s garments with their accessories excited me until I was twenty-seven. Later painting earned a stable place in my life and I focused especially on female faces to perfect the painting technique."

From 2010 to today, Marcela Medvedikova has participated in various group exhibitions at galleries and museum spaces in Capri, Naples, Cremona, and Rome. The Machina Gallery hosts the artist’s first solo show.
