You are bidding on a very fine old master 4/4 violin, labeled Joannes Franciscus Pressenda q Raphael fecit Taurini anno Domini 1836.
The instrument remains in good ready to play condition with some small repaired cracks on top, good rosewood and ebony set up, new bridge and new strings. The whole length of the violin is 598 mm and the back 360 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 170 mm; middle bouts: 112 mm; lower bouts: 209 mm.
Materials: very nice two pieces flamed maple back with matched sides and scroll and straight high to medium grained spruce top. The inlaid purfling and f-holes are beautifully executed. Original golden-brown-reddish varnish with tears and wears.
The sound is very deep, mellow, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
