Henri Logelain - (1889-1968) - Antwerpse binnenhaven

Henri Longelain was a painter, draftsman, watercolorist, and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy in Brussels and at the School of Decorative Arts in Ixelles. He worked in the Circle L’Effort, where Oleffe became his advisor and friend.

He produced portraits, figures, nudes, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, interiors, and still lifes. He evolved toward a colorful Fauvist style, then, in the 1920s, returned to a more realistic form and used a more subdued color palette.

In 1938 he resided in the Belgian Congo. He was a teacher at the Academy in Leuven and at the School for Arts and Crafts in Vilvoorde.
