A French mid‑century quinqué lamp dating from 1950–1960, with a turned metal body and opal glass globe, in good used condition and in working order, measurements 38 cm high and 13 cm in diameter.
Description from the seller
Magnificent quinqué-style lamp (kerosene lamp) of French manufacture, dating from the mid-20th century.
The lamp rests on a stepped circular base that supports a flattened spherical body.
The perforated central column with geometric motifs or ogival 'porthole' openings. In authentic kerosene lamps, these openings admitted oxygen to feed the flame; here they serve a purely aesthetic function and provide ventilation for the heat of the bulb.
The upper ring with manually tightened screws to firmly secure the neck of the glass tulip shade.
The main material is turned and polished brass, presenting a natural patina with an attractive speckling of oxidation and signs of wear, which give it that spectacular authenticity.
Notable is the inclusion of a butterfly or lateral wing nut decorative key on the faux burner, an excellent nod to the original keys used in the 19th century to regulate the height of the cotton wick.
The piece is finished with a spherical white opal or opalescent glass globe. This type of glass was favored in antique lighting because it diffuses light evenly, avoiding direct glare from the bulb.
Dimensions: 38 cm high and 13 cm in diameter.
It ships in careful and secure packaging.
