Description from the seller
Splendid historic poster of the famous American circus Barnum & Bailey, with an extraordinary depiction of a roaring tiger in the foreground, an iconic advertising image of the “Greatest Show on Earth”.
Note well: This is a later edition probably from the 1970s.
The subject, attributed to Walter Schanchenberg (illustrator active for American circus billposting in the first half of the twentieth century), represents one of the most recognizable posters in American circus graphics.
The composition has a strong visual impact: the tiger dominates the scene with an intense painterly rendering, jaws open and vibrant red/blue tones, typical of the great American lithographic tradition.
The graphics recall the original posters from the early decades of the 1900s tied to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus circuit, considered the largest traveling show of the era.
