KORG WS - WS AD S/N° 002193
KORG WS - WS AD S/N° 003546
Two expansion racks with bonus

A pair of vintage collector expansion units, unique.

KORG Wave Sequence technology has enjoyed years of glory, notably through its use in film music, and also through its integration into the gear of many bands and artists.
Although vintage, the sounds are totally timeless.
It is a very pro machine that has an inimitable sound due to the synthesis. It was Dave Smith (creator of the Prophet VS) who originated this famous KORG synth, which explains the “real synth” character of the machine.
The Wavestation A/D is the rack version of the Wavestation EX. It features 4 MB of advanced vector synthesis and wave sequencing capabilities. The A/D also includes a joystick to facilitate vector editing. A new feature is a stereo analog input to filter and modulate all external audio sources. They can even be used in the context of vector waveform shaping, vocoder, and more to integrate into your sound. The Wavestation A/D also features a multitude of built-in digital multi-effects for synth sounds and soft pads.
One of the rare vintage 'digital' synthesizers that has become a classic of its kind. It is found everywhere in US ambient productions (Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Loren Nerell, …). It is wonderful when designing atmospheric sounds: ethereal pads, dark deep drones, space-time continuum sounds and other cinematic effects...

This expansion unit is simply fabulous! The quality of the sounds is breathtaking and the processing possibilities incredibly powerful. It features three types of sound engines: vector synthesis, wave sequencing—short sampled sequences—and classic subtractive synthesis. All with high-quality effects. Additionally, it has analog inputs allowing processing of external sources—somewhat like a vocoder—and using the incoming signals as carriers or modulation elements. Add to that gold-plated XLR master inputs/outputs, the large display, the joystick... It remains a safe bet today and is still one of the best synthesizers produced by Korg to date.
The rack interface is EXEMPLARY! Navigation through the pages is done with soft-keys under the screen; a bit in the style of a Kurzweil K series. Moreover, there aren’t too many sub-menus and everything is perfectly organized. The screen is large and blue backlit. Parameters are always clear and can be entered in 3 distinct ways: via the alpha dial (for quick scrolling), the numeric keypad (for precise values), or the +/- buttons (for ultimate precision)... Additionally, a mark button allows storing editing pages that can be recalled quickly later... When you store a sound in memory, you can choose to listen to the one you are editing or the one you overwrite... The WS A/D also has a PCM card port and a RAM/ROM card port on the front panel. Of course, it does not have a sequencer (apart from the “wavesequences”!). The advantages over other models in the range: The A/D has stereo inputs with level selector (-40/-10/+4) and gain knob... You can use the signals entering the effects and/or as a patch or wavesequence base and do vectorial work. It also features a dual-format outputs 1/L and 2/R in CINCH and XLR.
