Description from the seller
An important oil on canvas painting depicting the Madonna with the Child at the center of an evocative choral composition inspired by the Italian devotional tradition.
The composition unfolds in a classical framework, marked by a strong centrality of the Marian figure, cloaked in traditional blue and red mantles, colors symbolic of her divine and human nature. To her right stands Saint Joseph with the blooming lily, emblem of purity and guardianship, while the Child Jesus is portrayed with a sweet and reserved expression. Around the sacred group, allegorical and devotional figures are arranged, enriching the iconographic narrative.
The landscape backdrop, dominated by mountains, trees, and a sky threaded with a golden light, gives depth and breadth to the whole, evoking the Venetian and Lombard painting tradition between the Renaissance and the nineteenth century. The color palette is rich and luminous, with particular attention to the contrasts between the warm tones of the flesh and the precious folds of the garments.
The execution shows solid mastery of drawing, careful handling of anatomy, and a refined pursuit of light. The brushwork, confident and descriptive, enhances the details of faces, fabrics, and natural elements, contributing to a work of strong visual and devotional impact.
Ideal for connoisseurs of sacred art, ecclesiastical settings, religious institutions, or important private collections.
