Description from the seller
VHILS - Purpose - Hand Embellished
A magnificent, handcrafted masterpiece by the artist Alexandre Farto, better known as VHILS.
For each print, the artist used bleach to embellish them and make them completely unique.
Original photos of the work for sale,
through the photos I believe I’ve accurately conveyed the appearance of the piece.
The work has been stored flat, away from light.
Signed and numbered by the artist.
Vhils became globally famous when he created a graffiti in 2008, next to an otherwise unknown Banksy piece. Around the world, when people talk about the so-called “Street Art,” Banksy and Vhils are often mentioned.
Vhils’s works appear all over the world - among others in Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Berlin and San Francisco.
Careful shipment with tracking number.
Vhils, a Portuguese artist born Alexandre Farto, is internationally renowned for his unique technique of creative destruction. With chisels, explosives, drills or acids, he carves directly into walls to reveal deeply human portraits. His work explores the impact of urban growth, the erasure of identities, and the collective memory etched into matter.
Vhils aligns with artists who push social engagement, like Shepard Fairey, whose graphic aesthetics question the media power. His conceptual approach is akin to Banksy, a master of social satire. The lineage with Blek le Rat, a pioneer of stencils, is evident in his relationship with the city. He also shares the figurative sensibility of Jef Aérosol, centered on the human. Finally, his mural universe resonates with PichiAvo, a duo blending classical mythology and graffiti.
His work also speaks to major figures such as JR, Invader, D*Face, C215, JonOne, Sandra Chevrier, Snik, Mr. Brainwash, Murakami, Jeff Koons, or KAWS, each pushing the boundaries of street art and contemporary visual culture.
