Kyne (1988) - ohne Titel (Tokyo 2)

I am offering here from my private collection a very rare sheet by the Japanese top street art artist KYNE.

It is the masterwork of his 2020 exhibition in Tokyo (Original see the last image). From this, an edition of 100 copies was produced, which were raffled due to enormous demand and have since steadily risen in price.

KYNE’s characteristic motifs are cool, dark-haired women, which he immortalizes in monochrome screen prints. In 2019 he met Takashi Murakami, and the pair have since collaborated on prints that juxtapose KYNE’s capricious portraits with Murakami’s bold and colorful graphics. The artists connected through their shared training in Nihonga painting, which KYNE studied at university. The style continues to shape his graphic language, reminiscent of manga cartoons from the Showa era and Japanese pop culture of the 1980s. KYNE, known only by his pseudonym, first became a recognized name in his hometown of Fukuoka, where he initially spread images of his iconic, casual motifs through stickers and graffiti. Since 2016 KYNE has been co-head of On Air, a studio, gallery and radio show based in Fukuoka.
