Initially represented in 1634 in the form of a masque, a theatrical genre combining poetry, music, dance and spectacle, the tale features a young Lady who, separated from her brothers during a journey through a wild forest, is confronted by Comus, mythological son of Bacchus and Circe, embodiment of temptation, unbridled pleasure and seductive deceptions of the senses -
Taking advantage of the young woman’s isolation, Comus tries to lure her into his enchanted realm where intoxication, immediate pleasures and the abandonment of moral principles prevail.
