Description from the seller
Lepine Pocket Watch of High Miniaturization (c. 1900–1915)
Lepine-type watch with crown-wound winding and setting.
Caliber: Swiss mechanism with independent bridges in frosted gilt brass, anchor escapement, bimetallic compensated balance, and A/R regulation pawl (Advance/Retard).
Record dimensions: Critical case diameter of 30.39 mm and total weight of 21.44 g. Classified as a high-miniaturization watch (lady’s or gala).
Case: Silver-made with double back cover. Exterior reverse decorated with radiant guilloché engraving (sunburst) and a plain oval cartouche.
Dial and Hands: White enamel porcelain dial. Black Arabic numerals (1-12) and an inner 24-hour scale in red (13-24). Main hands in gold-tone brass in Louis XV style.
Historiography and Mechanical Rarity
Small Seconds Complication: At 6 o’clock it reveals a subsidiary dial with a 0 to 60 scale.
Rarity by Scale: Housing an independent train for the seconds within a movement whose inner diameter barely exceeds 25 mm constitutes a feat of Belle Époque micromechanics. The design demanded infinitesimal tolerances in the pivoting and in reducing gear module sizes to prevent friction from stopping the mainspring, a manufacturing complication far beyond that of standard-sized calibers of the era.
Condition
Dial: Impeccable; free of hairs, cracks, or visible enamel loss.
Case: Minor mechanical wear from friction on the reverse reliefs and micro-scratches typical of use.
Movement: Structurally complete, clean, and free from oxidation or deficient interventions.
