Description from the seller
Title: "Symphony in Red"
Oil on canvas, 30 x 30 cm
In this square small-format canvas, Roberto Mauri orchestrates a powerful chromatic and atmospheric contrast, suspended between landscape realism and an almost abstract lyricism. The work is clearly divided into two emotional and visual hemispheres: the vibrant materiality of Earth and the silent composure of water and sky.
The foreground and the entire right side of the composition are dominated by an endless expanse of poppies. The red, saturated and almost fluorescent, is laid on with a dense brushstroke rich in texture that gives relief and dynamism to the flowering field. Moving toward the lower edge, the individual flowers detach from the color mass, transforming into bright droplets of color that float on a pale gray background, hinted by graphic blades of grass and fine lines.
To counterpoint this explosion of warmth is the left half of the painting, characterized by a strictly monochrome palette in shades of gray, white, and black. A calm, misty sheet of water reflects the profiles of two slender boats moored near the shore. A little further on, a typical rural building with a white wall rises as the focal point of the scene; its roof, painted in a vivid cyan blue, serves as a brilliant isolated color accent, balancing the visual vertigo of the surrounding red.
In the background, trees softened with an autumnal note dissolve into a leaden and milky sky, laid on with soft glazes that amplify the sense of quiet and isolation. The work thus unfolds as an intense reflection on solitude and the beauty of nature, where the artist’s signature, affixed decisively at the bottom right, seals a composition of strong scenic impact.
